Ideal Training Conditions

Timberline started hosting summer ski camps in 1978 with the installation of the Palmer Express Chairlift. The ease of travel and accessibility of the Palmer snowfield makes it a clear choice for ski and snowboarding teams. Quick turn around times on the lift and perfectly groomed lanes ensure that a day spent on the snow field is 100% productive.

The Use of Salt on Palmer

A Skiable Surface

Here on Mount Hood, as at ski areas worldwide, rock salt is used to create a safer, smoother ski surface. The salt melts the top snow crystals, forming a slurry that refreezes quickly, reducing “grab” and improving speed, safety, and summer skiing conditions at Timberline.
